Fundraiser, conferences mark half-year transition

Christmas is here and so is the end of the year. Some seniors decided to have a fundraiser for their senior project to give back to those in need for this special season. They collected items to put together to give to a shelter called Turning Point, which is a shelter for women and children who are victims of abuse. Those who donated participated in a dress-down day Dec. 23 with a coupon to LVA's school store.

Not only did grades nine through 12 have a fundraiser this year, but the junior high school raised money for the eighth grade field trip. They sold candy canes for 50 cents during homeroom Dec. 15 through 17. The candy canes were used to write messages to other students. It's a nice way to end the last school day of 2014, Dec. 24.

As the senior and junior high schools got in the holiday spirit, the elementary students had a holiday play to showcase the future stars of LVA. Along with a holiday play, students from fourth to 12th grade had a winter concert. Students showed their talents by singing and playing instruments, hosted by Miss Black and Mr. Krenicky. If it were not for Miss Black and Mr.Krenicky this concert would have not happened, so I want to give them a special thank you for making this concert possible.

Since half of the school year is almost over, parent-teacher conferences were held to discuss students' behaviors and grades. As for the senior class of 2015, many of them have early acceptance letters, and we are very proud to say that this year LVA is having the most students taking the IB scholarship. This is giving students more opportunities to further their education. Not only have many seniors been receiving early acceptance letters, but scholarships as well. Mrs. Bachert hosted a financial night on Dec. 16 to inform students and parents about available scholarships, and Moravian College and Wells Fargo representatives were there to help those who need more information about finical aid.

The junior and senior high schools also had an activity day which involved watching holiday movies, crafts and games. Students were able to make Christmas ornaments for their Christmas tree and watch movies. Watching French movies with Ms. Ayers was another option. The French honor society planned a party Dec. 23 celebrating Christmas with traditional French dishes and games.
