It's 'Fantasia Live' at the State Theatre

"Disney's Fantasia Live in Concert" features The Pennsylvania Philharmonic, 2 p.m. Jan. 4, State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton.

The 80-piece orchestra will provide the live score to Disney's "Fantasia" movie which will be shown above the State Theatre stage on a large high-definition screen.

"Fantasia" is an animated film by Walt Disney Productions released in 1940. The film consists of eight animated segments set to well-known classical pieces, including Beethoven's "Fifth Symphony," Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite" and Mussorgsky's "Night On Bald Mountain."

The year 2015 marks the 75th anniversary of the release of "Fantasia." Mickey Mouse is featured in Dukas' "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" segment.

The Pennsylvania Philharmonic, based in Ardmore, Delaware and Montgomery counties, is presenting "Disney's Fantasia Live in Concert" in Easton, Ardmore and York.

"We are a brand new regional orchestra," says Scott Robinson, Pennsylvania Philharmonic CEO, in a phone interview.

"Around the holidays, we wanted to do something that is accessible for audiences. Just about everyone is familiar with Disney's iconic 'Fantasia.' Not only is the animation incredible, but it includes some of the greatest classical music ever heard.

"'Fantasia 'is one of the first introductions that any child has to classical music. The film was remastered for these performances. All of our musicians are very excited about working on this project.

"I hope the Leigh Valley audience will come out and see us. Both visually and from a sound standpoint, 'Fantasia Live' is spectacular. This is a once-in-a lifetime experience that is great for the whole family."
