Trojans take care of Canes

Parkland may only have three dual meets under its belt heading into Christmas, but the Trojans have given their fans the gift of feeling good following Saturday's 49-8 victory over Liberty.

Ryan Nunamaker's crew dominated from start to finish, winning 12 of 14 bouts and collecting bonus points in six of those victories to move to 3-0 on the year heading into their holiday trek to western Pennsylvania for the Powerade Tournament on Dec 29-30 at Cannon McMillan High School.

"I really was looking to see where we would be at this point of the year with only three dual meets so far," said Nunamaker about his team's win over Liberty. "This [win over Liberty] was another step forward. We're improving from match-to-match and we made progress in a lot of areas"

Zach Ortman (113) certainly made progress for the Trojans on Saturday, as he overcame a 7-1 deficit to Luke Werner, getting three near fall points late in the third period to pull out an 8-7 decision.

Omar Haddad (220) squared off against Andrew Gunning and had little trouble in perhaps the most even bout on paper against both teams top guns.

Haddad worked his way to a 5-1 victory and will look to win his second straight title at the Powerade next week.

Nick Dolak (106), Frank Guida (182) and Jahan Worth (HWT) each picked up falls for Parkland on Saturday. Lee Todora (145) and Ibrahim Kheir (170) scored major decisions, while (126) Jacob Lizak scored a technical fall in the rout.

With eight new starters in the lineup for the Trojans this year, Nunamaker wasn't sure he exactly would have on the mats this season, but after three impressive wins to start the season, Parkland has proved themselves to be one of the top three-teams in the East Penn Conference.

"It's always hard to tell what kind of team you're going to have when you lose so many guys to graduation," said Nunamaker. "I knew we had some juniors and seniors that would step up for us, but you never really know what you have until they get out on the mat.

"Hopefully, at the end of the year we can be a team that can compete for one of the spots in the state tournament."
