THIS NEEDS A HEADLINE
As winter settles in and the holidays approach, The Lehigh Valley Charter HS for the Arts is still busy with events. From performances to art exhibits, the winter season is always an active one. There are plenty of recent activities to keep up to date with and upcoming events to attend!
A variety of performances have occurred recently. The theatre department put on their production of "The Misanthrope" by Moliere from Dec. 17 through the 21. The Penguin Figure Skating Club held the "Holiday on Ice" show on Dec. 14 at the Steel Ice Center, in which figure skating students from Charter Arts performed. The annual "Festivus" concert was held in the Charter Arts Black Box on Dec. 4, in which instrumental students played solos, duets, and ensemble pieces from a plethora of genres. The vocal and instrumental departments' Winter Concerts were held on Dec. 15 and 16 at Foy Hall at Moravian College. The concerts featured a variety of works from the Charter Arts wind ensemble, percussion ensemble, orchestra, guitar ensemble and vocal choirs.
Charter Arts has also been holding many shows at Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem. The Touring Choir performed there Dec. 11 and Dec. 22. The Gospel Choir sang there on the 18th. Lastly, the Winter Art Exhibit was held Dec. 12. The exhibit displayed both original and in-class student artwork as well as offered caricatures and light refreshments. Additionally, renowned photographer Larry Fink held a reception and exhibit opening of Portraits of the Soul in the Fowler Gallery at the high school Dec. 3. Students had the opportunity to speak with and learn from the distinguished photographer.
Charter Arts students have also had many master classes and opportunities recently. Choir members performed with the Allentown Symphony on stage for the Video Games Live show at the Sands Performing Arts Center Nov. 22. Students were able to meet the show's creator backstage before the performance. The artistic director of the Bach Choir of Bethlehem and one of their soloists visited the vocal department. They held a question and answer session and master class with the vocal students. Many vocal majors also performed at St. Luke's Children's Hospital recently. Furthermore, bassoonist Beth King and tuba player Yale Rosin both were accepted into the prestigious All-Eastern Honors Concert Band.
Nonetheless, there are still more events to come! School will reopen from winter break Jan. 5 and the following day Charter Arts will hold an open house for all prospective students. Attendees will have to opportunity to speak with current students as well as faculty about the school. The student council will host the annual Winter Ball Jan. 31 at The Meadows in Hellertown.
