Parkland slams Kids
Devante Cross, Kyle Stout and Kenny Yeboah each soared above the rim for dunks as the Parkland boys basketball team took an 18-5 lead after just one quarter. The Trojans did not struggle putting up points on the scoreboard the rest of the way either as they finished off an East Penn Conference win at Northampton last Friday night by defeating the Konkrete Kids 74-36.
Four different Trojans tallied double figures. Stout led the way with 17 points. Sam Iorio (15 points), Cross (13 points) and Yeboah (11 points) all had their hands in the victory, as head coach Andy Stephens was able to play his entire team, and 10 of the 11 players that entered the game found the score sheet.
At halftime, it was 31-14. Within the next eight minutes the Trojans doubled their lead to a 62-25 advantage after three.
"That's when we are at our best, when we're sharing the ball," Stout said. "We had 31 points at halftime, and in the third quarter alone we had 31 points. Coach said we had 11 assists in that quarter, and that's how we play at our best."
Parkland (6-0) used it's long, athletic defense to fluster Northampton offensively. The Trojans had 12 steals as a team which helped on the offensive side with easy baskets.
Parkland knows it will take everyone's best shot every game, and the Trojans see the big picture at the end of the season.
"Our ultimate goal is to get championships," said Stout. "We play our hardest every game because we know teams are doing the same against us. If we work hard at practice like we do, it will translate over to each game.
"Coach [Stephens] always makes sure we don't underestimate any opponent because that's when we can be beaten. We have some good competition coming up with the Lower Merion Christmas Tournament, so these games will hopefully give us a measuring stick and keep us playing hard."
Before heading to the Kobe Bryant Classic Tournament at Lower Merion this weekend, Parkland will host Central Catholic, in a rematch of the final Lehigh Valley Conference championship game from a year ago, on Tuesday night.
