The Boys and Girls Club of Bethlehem held its 24th annual steak and burger dinner fundraiser at the Historic Hotel Bethlehem in October with over 150 supporters and members present. The simple format that kids get steak and adults get a hamburger is usually reversed as many of the children who are club members opt for the burgers. Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Gary Martell praised the efforts of the event committee, which is chaired by Shelley Brown Nigito, noting that the last two years have been the biggest events in terms of funding raised. Martell complimented the club's staff calling them the "true heroes." Bethlehem Mayor Robert Donchez was the keynote speaker. Donchez, a member as a youth growing up on the Southside, told the attendees that the club taught him the importance of friendships, team work, education and hard work. "Get involved and give back," said Donchez.
