Mike and Sue Sacks of Coplay achieved their goal of raising $1,000 for the Whitehall Township Police Department's K-9 Unit.

Actually, the couple exceeded their goal by raising $1,325.

The Sackses presented the check to an appreciative Lt. Ribello Bertoni and Officers Rich Garner and Jeff Apgar Dec. 19. Garner works with K-9 Onyx and Apgar works with Mex.

"We love animals," Mike Sacks said. "We respect all the things you guys [K-9 unit] do."

Each year, Mike and Sue Sacks select an organization to raise funds for. Money is raised through their pet sitting business, Snug at Home. This year, they selected the township's K-9 unit as the recipient. The money will be used for the care and maintenance of Onyx and Mex.

Bertoni thanked the couple for the check and their fundraising efforts.

"We are very grateful," he said. "We certainly will use the money for the dogs."

Sue Sacks said she and her husband plan on raising money for an organization again next year.

"We usually think about different things," she said. "I'm not quite sure what we're going to do yet."

The Sackses also presented an energetic Onyx and Mex with Christmas decorated dog treats.

"These dogs are so important," Sue Sacks said. "They serve the community."
