With holiday decorations twinkling at homes along streets in Catasauqua, the borough public works employees have been working hard to do their part to create a festive streetscape.
"Jeff Miller and his crew have the George Taylor house done and it looks grand," Councilwoman Deb Mellish said at the Dec. 1 borough council meeting.
Borough residents get into the act as well. Every year, volunteers gather at the Diery Coal Yard for a wreath-making session on a mid-December weekend.
This year, Leonard Witt of Witt's Tree Service supplied the green boughs for the wreaths.
Kimberly Brubaker, president of Main Street, Catasauqua's business association, was one of the volunteers on Saturday.
"We make wreaths for the light posts along the [Pine Street] bridge and the downtown area and we decorate up the historical center," she said.
Everything was progressing nicely as they worked outdoors, although there was some discussion that opening the bathhouse for the event might not only attract a few more participants, but might also provide a hot chocolate option.
The wreath-making event coincided with a Christmas bazaar at the nearby Revolution Church and preceded the live nativity program at Bethany Church on Fifth Street, making it a festive holiday day in the borough.
