Katie Aquilina Notre Dame HS
Grade: 11
Family members: Joe and Sue Aquilina (parents), Sarah Rose (sister) and Nicholas (brother)
Favorite subject: I really enjoy the sciences because they allow me to be curious and understand more deeply life and its processes around me. I also find English interesting because it requires analytical thinking and gives me the opportunity to see an event or time period through another's perspective. Also, I like learning Spanish language and culture because it gives me a broader perspective.
Activities: Student Council, Key Club, FBLA, SADD, Friends Peer Listening, Angle 34 Athletes on the Field-Angels in the Community Student Board, Lehigh Valley United U17 gold soccer team, Notre Dame varsity soccer, St. Jane's youth group, skiing, piano
Next steps: Plan to pursue a college education
Career goals: Undecided
Heroes: I consider my parents and grandparents my heroes because they have dedicated their lives to learning and using that knowledge to help others.
Hobbies: I enjoy playing soccer, playing the piano, skiing and spending time with friends in my spare time.
Current job(s): Soccer referee for local youth soccer associations
Volunteer/community work: TOPSoccer youth coach, Camelot for Children, Miracle League, Special Olympics, Meals on Wheels, Feed the Need, Angle 34 community events
Likes: Spending time with family in Michigan, traveling and playing soccer
Greatest accomplishment (so far): Becoming a coach for special needs children at Lehigh Valley TOPSoccer. It allows me to use my love of soccer and athletics to teach children with special needs the game. I find it so rewarding to make a difference and to witness the kids' excitement when they have fun and learn something new.
Advice for peers: Results are not always immediate – keep trying and you will be rewarded later
