Muhlenberg College honored for accessibility

Muhlenberg College of Allentown recently received recognition from the Lehigh Valley Partnership for a Disability Friendly Community for creating a welcoming and accessible campus for students, faculty, theater patrons and visitors.

Dr. Nelvin Vos, convener of the Partnership, singled out the college's academic resource center, its office of disability services and the department of theater and dance for making the campus accessible for persons with disabilities.

The Partnership's Certificate of Recognition was accepted by Dr. Michael Huber, Muhlenberg's dean of academic life, during a reception Sept. 23 at the campus' Hoffman House. The Partnership also presented certificates to staff and faculty representatives of the theater department, the resource center and the disability services office.

In addition to Vos, the delegation from the Partnership included Amy Beck, executive director of the Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living; Tim Boyer, administrator of the Lehigh County Department of Mental Health, Intellectual Disabilities, Early Intervention Services and Drug and Alcohol; Karen Grady, executive director of The Arc of Lehigh and Northampton Counties; and Bob Wittman, co-chair of the Partnership's Community Awareness Committee.
