LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners asked for a moment of silence during the Dec. 4 meeting in recognition of the passing of Sam Ashmar, Upper Macungie Township supervisor.
Ashmar was a fire marshall for the Upper Macungie Fire Department.
Also at the meeting, the plan for the Maydick Land Development was approved. The plan is to expand a house at 5281 Hamilton Blvd. used as an office. It is a 1,670 square foot expansion with parking lot improvements, a pedestrian path along the front and other miscellaneous improvements. The property is owned by Kevin and Linda Maydick.
Lower Macungie Township announced the unveiling of their new website. The new site has better navigation and is easier to use. Township personnel are very pleased with the upgrade.
There continue to be comments regarding the artificial turf project for Quarry Park. Correspondence in support of the project has been mentioned while opposition continues due to cost and recent articles about a link with cancer. Some residents are requesting more time for approval of the project.
Residents are commending commissioners Douglas Brown and Ron Beitler for voicing their concerns and suggesting methods of return on the investment. There is mention of such but no plan of action.
Denise Foulke, director of recreation, gave a recap of the Lower Macungie Township craft show. Some vendors have been with the show for six years and many said this was the best show yet. The show was filled to capacity with 40 vendors on the waiting list.
Correspondence was received about the proposed Farr tract land development, calling for reconsideration of the active 55+ community. Lower Macungie Township already has the largest number of these types of communities. It was also mentioned there are more families living together as extended families.
An ongoing concern was expressed over the loss of open space.
RCN has entered into a new contract with the township.
Advanced Cleaning Solutions was awarded a contract for cleaning in the township building.
The Lower Macungie Township manhole lining project is being submitted for bidding. This project will help take in less stormwater.
