Alburtis Holiday Festival
Alburtis Borough held the annual holiday festival Dec. 7, beginning 8 a.m. with a breakfast with Santa and vendors displaying their wares for those who wanted to do some gift shopping at the Alburtis Area Community Center.
After breakfast, Santa drove around town to let kids know they could visit with him at the Alburtis Fire Department and receive a gift.
Activities were happening all over town throughout the day, including at the East Penn Children's Fitness Academy, the Cold Nose Lodge and Alburtis Animal Hospital, the Alburtis Fire Department and Alburtis Historical Society.
Surrey rides leaving from borough hall also were offered.
At Lockridge Church Kevin Shoemaker, president of the Alburtis Historical Society had everything set up for the annual cookie baking contest judged this year by Terry Bender, owner of Alburtis Tavern and Lodge. With only two entrants, Bender quickly chose his favorites and said he would help to encourage an increase in contestants next year.
Angie Aleszczyk won three prizes: the best decorated cookie, the best chocolate chip cookie and the best creative cookie. Christine Gaugler won for the easiest homemade cookie.
Emmaus High School a cappella singers serenaded festival visitors with Christmas carols.
The winners of the Holiday House Decorating contest chosen by the fire department based on originality, creativity, arrangement and lighting were announced.
Gene and Carol Fegely, of Windsor Road, won first prize. Cory and Gina Schmaldinst, of Second Street, won second prize and Larry and Gloria Kehs, of Chestnut Circle West, won third prize.
The celebration ended 5:30 p.m. with caroling and the annual tree lighting ceremony.
