Whitehall Township Public Library Column

Holiday portraits will be taken this Saturday, Dec. 13, from 11 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m.

This year, the Whitehall Public Library is working with a local portrait studio, Steven B Photos.

Call in advance to schedule your time slot. The photographer will take three shots for you to choose from.

Up to four people may be in each photo. You may pose with a seasonal background and props.

There is a fee. When your photographs are ready, the library will contact you.

Holiday Family Story Time is scheduled 7-7:45 p.m. Wednesday nights through Dec. 17 in the community room.

Children hear stories and do a craft.

The event is open to all ages.

Open Mic Night is held the third Monday of each month in the community room.

You may drop in to play music, read poems, tell stories and sing.

Sign-in begins 6 p.m. Dec. 15 and the entertainment runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Come in and enjoy the fun.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health will offer free blood pressure screenings at the library the first Friday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon.

The next screening is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 2 in the library community room.

Registration is not required.

The event is open to the public.

The Adult Winter Reading Program will take place from Jan. 12 to March 7.

The event is open to those 18 years and older.

The theme this year is "Cozy Up With a Good Read!"

The library has a new database, Pronunciator Language Lab, an online language source that contains 80 languages. The database is free for patrons who have a library card.

The Teen Advisory Board is an impressive group of students who plan and prepare many of the events offered at the library for children, tweens and teens.

Monthly meetings are held Saturdays from 1:30 to 3 p.m. to present ideas, make suggestions, plan and organize programs and events, from beginning to end, throughout the year.
