Santa kicks off the season in North Catty

The jolly red fellow has officially arrived in North Catasauqua.

Santa Claus and his adoring wife Mrs. Claus made their annual visit to the borough park aboard a North Catasauqua Fire Department fire truck the evening of Nov. 30.

The Catasauqua High School Roughies Marching Band played the classic holiday favorite, "Here Comes Santa Claus," to beckon one of Christmas's favorite couples.

Children excitedly looked to their left and right as they heard the fire truck siren.

After being escorted off the truck by fire department personnel, the Clauses were warmly greeted by a large gathering of families and children.

The Clauses, in customary fashion, then lit the borough Christmas tree, allowing the beautiful bulbs on the tree to shine for all in the community to relish.

The time then arrived where Santa and his wife took their traditional seats under the magnificently lit park pavilion where they individually met with children.

Michele Hazzard, North Catasauqua councilwoman and a member of the borough recreation committee, revealed the man and woman behind the red suits.

According to Hazzard, Eric Snyder and his wife, Tina, have been playing the dual role for years. Eric is a guidance counselor at Catasauqua High School and his wife teaches at Sheckler Elementary School.

"They know each kid in the community," she said. "The children love seeing them every year."

Hazzard was right.

As a young boy and girl approached Mr. and Mrs. Claus with wide eyes and beaming smiles and took a seat on their laps, the Christmas couple addressed both children by name.

Like many years past, Santa and Mrs. Claus kicked off the Christmas season in North Catasauqua with warmth and love for all.
