Coplay to vote on budget Monday

Coplay Borough Council will vote on whether to approve its 2015 proposed budget at a special meeting Monday, Dec. 16, at 6:30 p.m.

At its regular meeting Dec. 9, council held the second reading of the proposed $2 million spending plan.

Councilman Joseph Groller noted a few adjustments had been made since the first reading at the workshop meeting Dec. 2.

Insurance rates will not be as high as originally anticipated, Groller said. As a result, the figure for employee health insurance has fallen $12,000, from $176,000 to $155,000. The amount budgeted for employee health insurance for the santitation workers also falls from $41,000 to $40,000.

Groller said this adjustment was made because officials did not have final insurance figures when they put together the budget and estimated high.

The general fund balance also will increase from $26,516 to $38,516.

Overall, the budget will raise taxes by 0.3 mills, bringing the rate from 4.09 to 4.39 mills.

In other business, council voted unanimousy to purchase four portable radios for use by borough employees.

The radios will be paid for by savings from not having to pay for cell phones the borough will no longer keep.
