Woman receives suspicious call
Coplay police are investigating a borough woman's complaint of fraud.
Police were informed Dec. 4 that the woman received a call from what she believed was from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
The caller said a $7,000 grant had been approved in her name. In order to receive the grant, the woman was told she had to send a Green Dot MoneyPack in the amount of $250. She was then instructed to send an additional $400, police said.
Becoming suspicious, the woman instead checked with the Federal Reserve Bank and learned the request was not legitimate and that no such grant was awarded.
