A record crowd turned out for the 49th annual Community Advent Breakfast at Moravian Village Dec 6. The ecumenical event, put on by the Citizens Christmas City Committee of the Bethlehem Area Chamber of Commerce, marks the religious arrival of the Christmas season. Bethlehem Mayor Robert Donchez welcomed some 215 attendees after a prelude by the popular Bethlehem Area Moravian Trombone Choir. Advent Breakfast sub-committee chair Barbara Taylor and committee member Anne Evans spoke about next year's 50th anniversary of the breakfast set for Dec. 5. The Broughal MS SouthSide Singers performed to the delight of the large crowd. Guest speaker Bishop Hopeton Clennon, senior pastor at Central Moravian Church, spoke of his Jamacan holiday memories and of the importance of human life in light of events in Ferguson, Mo., New York City and Cleveland. A Moravian Beeswax Candle Ceremony and the singing of the cherished Christmas hymn "O Little Town of Bethlehem, " concluded the event.
