LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Upper Milford Township

Upper Milford supervisors will ask the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to close the intersection of Indian Creek Road and Cedar Crest Boulevard because they believe it is hazardous.

Indian Creek Road leading up to the intersection is very steep and the intersection is on a curve in Cedar Crest Boulevard.

Chairman Robert Sentner made the suggestion at the Dec. 4 meeting and it passed on a 2-1 vote. Daniel Mohr was opposed.

"We've tried to get PennDOT to do something" about the intersection, Sentner said.

He said a traffic study was conducted a few years ago, but contended the study was not done at the times school was starting and letting out, when he believes traffic is heaviest.

Sentner said Indian Creek could be turned into a cul-de-sac at the bottom of the hill.

In other meeting business, supervisors announced the meeting schedule for the rest of the year. Supervisors will hold their regularly scheduled meeting Dec. 18, a year-end meeting 7:30 p.m. Dec. 30 and a reorganization meeting 7:30 p.m. Jan. 5, 2015.

For the rest of the year, the supervisors will continue with the current schedule of the first and third Thursdays of every month, with a workshop meeting 7 p.m. and the regular meeting 7:30 p.m.

In other action, supervisors agreed to allow township employees to carry over unused vacation time into next year. Township Manager Daniel DeLong said 2014 was unusual because a number of employees were out for medical reasons, so other employees had to fill in and were not always able to take vacation.

DeLong said he is talking about 136 hours for public works employees and an 'astronomical' amount for office staff.

After the meeting, DeLong said supervisors interviewed several candidates for the new position of assistant township manager and have asked him to offer the job to one of them.

DeLong said he hopes the new hire will be announced at either the year-end meeting or the reorganization meeting Jan. 5, 2015.
