PHS boys hoops must replace four graduates

When the Parkland boys basketball team suits up for its first game at Stroudsburg on Friday night, there will be a different look to it. For the past two seasons, head coach Andy Stephens could pencil in four players into his starting lineup every night.

Jimmy Hahn, Nick Rindock, Nick Salvaggi, and Justin Zajko have graduated, and each one left his own mark on the program the last few years.

Now, with only one starter returning, the Trojans will have some questions about who is going to score and who is going to lead.

Sophomore Sam Iorio is the lone returning starter, and he doed not lack the ability to put the ball in the basket. But, there will only be two seniors on the roster in Justin Jones and Kevin Delourie, so Parkland will need to find some players that can step up and lead by example.

Juniors Kyle Stout, Jack Dreisbach, Devante Cross and Kenny Yeboah will all vie for the open starting spots. Newcomers Noel Brouse, Zach Bross and Will Baar will bring athleticism and size off the bench for Stephens.

"Our experience is what we look at as a worry at first," said Stephens. "We lose a lot of varsity minutes with those guys last year. We need to gain some game experience. But we have a lot of height, athleticism and shooting ability. [We] just need to build on chemistry and playing unselfishly and the right way. We're going to be an up-tempo team."

There are high expectations surrounding this year's team, after a 22-6 season a year ago, and back-to-back District 11 Class AAAA championships. The Trojans will be looked at as a favorite for the league and district titles once again.
