Nelson F. Tyson

Nelson F. Tyson, 94, formerly of Schnecks-ville, died on Nov. 24, 2014, surrounded by his loving family, in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall.

He was the husband of the late Florence E. (Musselman) Tyson.

Born March 2, 1920, in Mahoning Valley, Carbon County, he was the son of the late William and Agnes (Hartung) Tyson.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations, where he was awarded a Three Bronze Star Victory Medal and a Purple Heart Medal.

A heavy equipment operator for Allentown Excavation Co. for 15 years, he previously worked for the former Roy J. Kern Trucking, Schnecksville. He served as fire chief from 1955-77 of Community Fire Co. No. 1, Schnecksville, and was a life member.

His survivors include daughters, Barbara A. Frederick and her husband, Richard, of Whitehall and Eileen M. Schock and her husband, James, of Schnecksville; grandchildren Christina, Jessica, Jason and Julie; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by four brothers, five sisters and great-grandson, Brent.

A graveside service with military and fireman honors will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
