The "2014 Jimmy Sturr Christmas Show" returns at 3 p.m. Dec. 7 to the State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton.
"We have been to the State many times and look forward to it each year," Sturr says in a phone interview.
"This is a true holiday show. We have been doing a Christmas show for years and we really enjoy it.
"My favorite time of the year is Christmas. I love to get in touch with the feel and spirit of the season."
The show features holiday and polka favorites with Matt & Elaine, the Jimmy Sturr Singers and The Four Lads, a Canadian male vocal group known for the hit singles "Moments To Remember," "Standin' On The Corner" and "No, Not Much."
Eighteen-time Grammy Award-winning Sturr leads one of the most well-known polka bands in the United States. Sturr and his group can be heard on his show on Syrius XM, syndicated radio show and weekly television show on Direct TV and the RFD-TV network.
Sturr has performed polka music with many contemporary country music stars, including Mel Tillis, Allison Krauss and Willie Nelson. "Not many people realize Willie got his start in a polka band," says Sturr.
Sturr got his start playing polka in the town of Florida, N.Y. He grew up surrounded by Polish and German immigrants. Polka was played at high school dances, weddings and parties during his youth.
"We started as a polka band at our high school and soon we were touring all over the world."
Sturr believes that polka music continues to be popular because it's upbeat. "No matter where you go in the country, people want to hear happy music that they can dance to."
For the State Theatre show, Sturr says there'll be plenty of fun. "You can expect Santa Claus to make an appearance."
