Local student named RA

Santana Velez of Bethlehem, who is studying biochemistry, has been appointed as a one year resident assistant in University Towers, Wilkes College. She has agreed to abide by a code of ethics and to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.25 and a semester grade point average of 2.0 while carrying a full course load of at least 12 credits.

Resident awarded scholarship

Amalia Garcia Santiago of Bethlehem, an undecided major freshman, was awarded an Albright College Alumni Scholarship. Freshmen recipients generally rank in the top 25 percent of their high school graduation class. The scholarship is renewable as long as the student maintains a 2.67 grade point average.

McGivern in University of Scranton freshman honor society

Alexandra McGivern of Bethlehem, a student in the Panuska College of Professional Studies at the University of Scranton, was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, the national honor society for freshmen. To be eligible, students must rank in the top 20 percent of the class, have a minimum GPA of 3.5 for the first semester of their freshman year and be enrolled on a full-time basis.

Enrolled at Brenau

Christopher Evans of Bethlehem is among the new students enrolled at Brenau University for the fall semester.

Enrolled at Lafayette

Five Bethlehem residents, Lafayette Class of 2018, have begun fall term studies.The students are Moravian Academy graduates Alexander Battisti and John Reilly; Liberty HS graduate Jane Rosa; and Bethlehem Catholic HS graduates Victoria Tesone and Madeleine Titus.

Soldier gets promotion

Army National Guard soldier Ariel Nieves, of Bethlehem, has been promoted to private first class. Promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability, and development potential.

She is serving with the 145th Maintenance Company, New York Army National Guard.
