Overturned big rig closes Route 309, Lynn Township

A 31-year-old man was injured in a one-vehicle crash around 3:09 a.m. Nov. 24 on Route 309, just south of Route 143, Lynn Township.

State Police Troop M Fogelsville say Todd W. Titus of Weatherly was driving a 2001 Peterbilt tractor-flatbed combo hauling wire mesh southbound on Route 309, just south of Route 143, when he apparently lost control of the rig.

After traveling through a left curve in the roadway, the truck swerved, traveled approximately 45 feet onto the west shoulder of the roadway, overturned onto its passenger side before striking a road sign on the west shoulder, losing its load.

Police say the truck then traveled an additional 324 feet on its side to a point of final rest facing southwest in the right southbound lane.

According to police, wire mesh, various debris and a large amount of fuel was strewn about the roadway.

Both the southbound and northbound lanes of Route 309 were detoured for an extended period of time.

Titus, who was wearing his seat belt, sustained a minor injury, police say.

He was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

New Tripoli and Goodwill fire companies, PennDOT, Hauser's Towing and Soley's Towing assisted at the scene.
