Holiday win would end season on positive

To say that Northampton and Catasauqua players are excited for this week's Thanksgiving Day clash is an understatement.

The K-Kids and Rough Riders head into their 92nd meeting when they clash Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at Catasauqua's Alumni Field.

Each encounter of this rivalry is unique, but it's the first for Northampton head coach Mark Scisly, who may be just as excited as his players for the contest.

Northampton is looking to snap a three-game skid against the Rough Riders, as they lost last year's contest 43-28.

Getting back on the winning side of the series is important for Scisly in his first year at the helm.

"We are worried about this year," said Scisly in regards to his focus of the present state of the series. "We haven't talked much about what Catty did the last three years except that it is time to start a new streak in the series. We are excited."

It pits both teams at similar levels, which hasn't been the case in recent memory, as Catasauqua qualified for districts the past three years, winning the District 11 2A title last season.

Scisly knows that his team will need to stay disciplined and balanced if they want to cap their 2014 campaign on a high note.

"We can't give up big plays in the pass game.," he said. "They [Catasauqua] have some talented wide receivers and we cannot make any errors in our pass coverage. Our plan is to be as balanced as possible.

"We need to be consistent in how we do things on offense and defense. We can't give up big plays on defense and have to control the ball on offense."

Hopefully, a snowy Wednesday won't have an affect on the field conditions for Thursday, but no matter the scenario, a win would be a boost for the Kids heading into their offseason.

"A win in this game would be huge," Scisly said. "Improving the teams's win total by three games would be a huge stride in the right direction and also will lay a concrete foundation for next season."
