On GivingThanks

Is it enough to thank you,

Dear Lord for all that's good

For family and friendships,

For health and hearth and food?

I do not think such gratitude

Sufficient of the day,

When many of our loved ones

Are fighting far away;

Where days like our Thanksgiving

Are few and far between,

Where hunger and hostility

Are all too often seen.

So we many offer thanks, Lord,

But also show we care

By letters, cards and presents

To our troops serving there.

Strive for peace in our time,

Soften the enemy's heart,

Win over their iron resolve

With good feelings from the start.

Let us celebrate Thanksgiving

With all the world, and then

We can truly count our blessings

When our boys are home again.
