Hawk seniors sign

With the holiday season approaching, Bethlehem Catholic has plenty to be thankful for their recent success.

Coming off the school's first ever state championship in girls sports with the volleyball team winning the PIAA 2A championship, as well as the football team winning their second straight District 11 3A title that night, Becahi introduced four athletes heading to college to play sports at their fall signing last Monday (Nov. 17) afternoon.

Kalista Walters (Pitt, women's basketball), Andrew Dunn (Virginia Tech, wrestling) Sydnee Karam (West Virginia, swimming) and Madison Reightler (IUP, field hockey) continued an epic weekend with the three Division-I signees.

Reightler also made her own set of history by becoming the first field hockey player at Becahi to ever sign a scholarship to play at the next level.

It was a great day all-around, but for the likes of Walters, it's been no secret that she's heading to Pitt to play basketball the next four years.

"I committed back in August, so today was really just about making it official," said Walters. "We always have those goals to do better than we did last year and I really just wanted to focus on playing this year. It's my last go around, so we want to make the best of it."

Andrew Dunn felt Virginia Tech was right for him and wanted to get the decision out of the way before the wrestling season got into full swing, as winter sports started practices last week.

"They weren't even on my list of schools last spring and I went down to their junior day and I fell in love with the campus and the coaching staff," said Dunn, who also joins teammates Luke Karam and Joey Gould as recent signees of Division-I programs, as the latter two have committed to Bucknell. "This year I just wanted to focus on wrestling and doing well in school. To be able to make this choice before the season is a great feeling and I know I made the right choice."

Sydnee Karam, the daughter of Liberty wrestling coach Jody Karam, chose West Virginia over Towson

"From the second I was on campus, I fell in love," Karam said. "I liked how big the school was and I also really liked the people on the swim team and I felt like I really fit in well there."
