Brickman launches 'Winter's Night' at Miller Symphony Hall
Adult contemporary hitmaker Jim Brickman returns to the Lehigh Valley to kick off "On A Winter's Night," his 2014 holiday tour.
Brickman will perform a mix of seasonal music and hits from his songbook, 8 p.m. Nov. 28, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown.
Brickman is the most charted Billboard Adult Contemporary Artist in history with hits like "Valentine," "The Gift" and "Sending You A Little Christmas." His annual holiday tour has become a tradition for many.
Brickman has been playing piano since age five. "I was very attracted to music as a child," he says in a phone interview. "I always had a passion for it.
"I don't think becoming a musician or any type of artist is something you decide. It's something you just are. As you get older, you begin to consider if it will be just a hobby or a profession."
For many years, Brickman cut his teeth in the industry by writing commercial jingles.
"I was living in Cleveland. Living there and writing for commercials was a great training ground. I learned so much about the recording process and about different styles of music."
Brickman yearned to write music that was more authentic to who he was. He packed up, moved to Los Angeles and began to write the music he is known for today.
Brickman's 1997 album, "The Gift," which included the hit title song of the same name, began his natural evolution into performing holiday music.
"It came naturally to me. Holiday music complemented the love songs I was writing."
Brickman is looking forward to his performance at Miller Symphony Hall.
"I've returned there many times. I love the place. It's a very intimate venue. There isn't a bad seat in the house.
"That contributes to the way people experience the music. It's a more of a gathering.
"I've been doing this show for 18 years and it's like a holiday get together."
