Stroll on the Park to return in 2015

Whitehall Township Commissioner Phillips Armstrong is in the process of formulating plans for a second "Stroll on the IRT Trail" in 2015, following the first one in September.

"I am satisfied," Armstrong said Oct. 30 when reflecting on the September event which the commissioner said drew a nice response from the public.

Free bus rides were offered to transport people to sites along the trail.

Armstrong said a tour with period costumed volunteers at the Steckel-Troxell Homestead in Egypt and health screenings made the event a standout.

The township's Emergency Management Agency will be aboard in 2015, along with other organizations, which will be announced over the next several months.

According to Armstrong, the 2015 stroll will again offer free bus rides to and from the IRT trail. It is expected to again be held in September so it will not interfere with other public events in the area.

"We want to have the public and our residents be proud of what Whitehall offers," Armstrong said.

More than two dozen sites on the trail have historic significance to the township and region, as well as to former cement and iron manufacturing plants.
