The Rev. Monsignor Alfred R. Ott, 83, pastor emeritus of Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena, Allentown, died Oct. 31, 2014, in Holy Family Villa, Bethlehem.
A native of Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Alfred A. and Gertrude (Mayer) Ott.
He attended Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parochial School and Northeast Catholic High School, Philadelphia.
He studied for the priesthood at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook.
He was ordained to the priesthood May 14, 1960, by the Most Rev. J. Carroll McCormick at the Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia.
His first assignment was Parochial Vicar, St. Paul Church, Reading, followed by Parochial Vicar, St. Anne Church, Bethlehem, and Administrator, St. Ambrose Church, Schuylkill Haven.
He then was named Pastor to St. Ambrose Church, his first pastoral assignment, followed by pastor ofSacred Heart, West Reading, then pastor of Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena, Allentown, where he remained until his retirement in 2003 when her was named pastor emeritus.
He was named a prelate of His Holiness by Pope John Paul II, in 1990. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus in the Bishop Welsh Assembly 931 and a member of Calvary Council 528, Allentown.
He is survived by nieces and nephews Brian Sheridan and wife, Colleen, Williamstown, N.J.; Michael Sheridan of Bensalem; Denise Durant and husband, Robert of Williamstown, N.J., and Lisa Sheridan of Philadelphia.
He was predeceased by his sister, Jeanette (Ott) Sheridan.
