PHS visits undefeated Rovers in D-11 final
It's the game that they've had circled on their calendars since an early October loss. When the Parkland football team was downed by Easton on their home field for its second loss of the season, there were questions asked about where the Trojans would be once the postseason came.
After two consecutive, convincing wins in the Districts 2-11 Subregional playoff, Parkland (10-2) will have a return date with the Red Rovers (12-0) Friday night at Cottingham stadium for the championship.
"It's a heck of a rivalry we've got going with them because we seem to play them twice every year," said head coach Jim Morgans. "Our kids are excited about the opportunity, but we know Easton's one heck of a team."
The Trojans are now playing with a lot of momentum, with five wins in a row since their last loss to Easton. They are also looking to defend their title, and claim a third straight district trophy.
Parkland got to this point with a 31-7 thumping on the road at Delaware Valley last weekend, and have won both district games far from the confines of the Lehigh Valley.
Junior quarterback Devante Cross led the offensive attack with 112 yards rushing, and 133 passing yards with two touchdowns.
Defensively, the Trojans are relentless in stopping the run and getting after the quarterback. For the third week in a row, they were matched up against a top tier running back, and held him in check. The Warriors Lex Rosario, who had 1,813 yards on the season, was held to just 65 yards on the ground.
"They did a great job against a very good running back," said Morgans. "We're playing really well right now, and it's going to take a team with a lot of tools to beat us."
But Easton may have some of those tools that could force a tough game out of Parkland.
In a second straight district shutout, 28-0 over Freedom, the Red Rovers got 205 yards rushing from Shane Simpson behind a formidable line, and forced five turnovers on defense.
These two teams met last year in the same game, and Parkland came out on top 42-0.
