Ethnic tree display lighting Nov. 30

The South Bethlehem Historical Society has begun work on its annual ethnic Christmas tree lighting event set for Sunday, Nov. 30, at Comfort Suites on Third Street, Bethlehem. Admission is free.

Steve Baron, vice president of the board of directors, said at the society's recent meeting, "It's a great program to celebrate the ethnic groups that make up south Bethlehem."

Baron said it highlights the many different ethnic groups that settled in the south Bethlehem area.

Volunteers from several south side Bethlehem church and ethnic organizations will decorate 17 Christmas trees. The trees will be displayed in the lobby of Comfort Suites through December 28. People will be able to begin working on the trees on Thursday.

The Christmas tree lighting ceremony has been held annually for about 23 years, and serves as a fundraiser for the historic society.

"It brings a little bit of the holidays to Bethlehem," he said.

Anyone interested in volunteering some time to decorate a tree should call Steve Baron at 484-221-1103. He has contact information for the various organizations.
