'10 Miles' to go at NCC

PRESS PHOTO BY PAUL WILLISTEIN

"10 Miles," an exhibition of 24 photographs by Olaf Starorypinski, above, continues through Dec. 11, Communications Hall Gallery, Northampton Community College, Main Campus, Bethlehem Township. Starorypinski took photographs of persons who live within 10 miles of his studio at the Banana Factory, Bethlehem, where the photographs were made. One key light on the subject and two lights on the white backdrop were used. There was no makeup. Each person wore a white shirt and was asked to relax, not smile and look into the camera. The photographs are 36 in. by 36 in. on archival pigment print. The photos were not retouched. "We've become so accustomed to image manipulation that we don't notice when it's done," Starorypinski said at the Nov. 14 opening reception. Gallery hours: 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday. The exhibition is sponsored by the NCC Art Program and InVision Photo Festival-ArtsQuest.
