Saucon Valley News: Mini THON: For the Kids

For the kids. A slogan posted all over Saucon Valley getting people aware of the mini THON taking place in the spring. Inspired by Penn State University's famous THON, Saucon Valley has decided to create a mini THON to raise money for pediatric cancer.

This past spring was SVHS's first ever mini THON. With an impressive outcome of over 11,000 dollars raised, Saucon is hosting another this year. Leaders of mini THON committee, seniors, Maggie Hofstaedter, Davis Weaver and junior, Liz Trimble have already started fundraising. So far, the THON committee has been at every home football game and various other sporting events collecting donations. They have raised over $1,000 from that alone.

The goal for this years THON is $15,000. THON donation cans have been placed all over the Lehigh Valley at local restaurants and businesses for donations. One hundred percent of the proceeds go straight to the Four Diamonds Fund on a mission to research pediatric cancer. Four Diamonds also works to make the lives of the patients and their families easier during the battle of cancer.

Saucon Valley recently had an event at The Goosemen in Bethlehem and received a percentage of the profit the deli raised during the time set for the fundraiser. The mini THON committee is already planning fun events and things to do during the mini THON being held at the school.

Last year's THON consisted of many fun events for the students to participate in. One of them was jousting where two students "jousted" with foam sticks. They also had a pyramid contest where students had to stack themselves and see who could get the most people into a pyramid.

The mini THON committee is recruiting more and more students to participate this year because of the overwhelming success of last year. So if you pass a can or a student raising money for Saucon Valley's mini THON remember it's for the kids.
