Bethlehem Catholic HS signed a deal Oct. 29 to begin hosting entry-level Cabrini College classes for its students.
Becah and Cabrini administrators completed the official paperwork and shared tales of familiar experiences in education as they took a few moments from their busy day to converse.
The first class, Introduction to Criminal Justice, currently registering, will begin Jan. 13 and run through May 5.
Juniors Kylee Shivok and Ryan Schodowski were early entries for the new option and were present for the signing. "If you think about it, it's affordable and really transferable," said Shivok of the course, which will count as a full three credits at a low $100 per credit - on par with some community colleges.
Shivok, who plans to major in forensic psychology, said she appreciated the ability to learn how to take college courses without the pressure of being alone on a campus.
Schodowski agreed, saying his career in law or business will be assisted by getting a leg up and skipping the often convoluted college application process.
The program comes full circle as the first teacher will be none other than Judge Emil Giordano of Northampton County Court of Common Pleas, a Becahi graduate.
As of the signing seven students had registered for the first course.
