LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Quarry Park fields upgrade debate continues

At the Nov. 6 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, comments regarding the proposed Quarry Park field upgrade continued. There were various communications received regarding this issue.

Residents are questioning the need for the proposed fields as well as the amount of money needed.

Resident Susan Coenen asked about public use which has not been determined. She also suggested Commissioner Brian Higgins recuse himself from the process due to the potential of conflict of interest. Higgins is a Lower Macungie Youth Association coach and on the LMYA board.

Several individuals recommended creating a dog park saying it would benefit people and dogs as a social environment and provide a place for dogs to get safe exercise.

There are two lots of land at 5131 and 5141 East Texas Road being considered for subdivision. These lots are on the north side of East Texas Road and east of Brookside Road. The one lot has a house on it while the other has the community garden plots on it. On this lot, it is being suggested to build three houses.

State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th, wrote to Lower Macungie Township thanking the township for partnering during the recent shredding event.

Governor Tom Corbett sent a letter to Lower Macungie Township advising of a grant award for Spring Ridge Crossings Park and another grant for the Spring Ridge Crossings Greenway Trail.

The office of Senator Pat Browne, R-16th, sent a letter about the grant award for the SW Comp Plan.

PPL will replace the H-frame poles with the newer steel monopoles. The project begins at Wild Cherry and Sauerkraut Roads, travels south through Indian Creek, crosses Indian Creek and Buckeye and enters Upper Milford at the transfer station on East Macungie Road.

The Schoeneck Road bridge will be under construction April through June of 2015. The road will be closed during the reconstruction and a detour will be in place.

There will be a project of reconditioning traffic lights in the township. The amber lights will be replaced with LED lights. Then red and green lights were already replaced.
