The Shooting Stars Girls Organization of Whitehall will hold a gift card bingo 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at Faith Lutheran Church, 3355 MacArthur Road.

Boy Scout Troop 79 from Stiles will be observing its 75th Anniversary with a celebration Nov. 1.

The event will include a performance by the Whitehall High School Chorale, the opening of a 50-year time capsule, the burying of a 75-year time capsule and a buffet lunch.

The idea of Troop 79 began in the spring of 1938 when Father Charles Ruffenach of Saint John the Baptist Church, Stiles, proposed a Scout troop. Six volunteers took the basic leaders course offered by the Boy Scouts of America.

During the past 75 years, Troop 79 has produced numerous Eagle Scouts and AAD Religious Medal award recipients. In the past 25 years alone, 23 troop members have become Eagle Scouts.

Troop 79 is proud to maintain the Stiles Memorial located on Chestnut Street. They also hold breakfasts and an annual spaghetti supper to raise funds for their camping trips.
