LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

School news: Autumn at Moravian Academy

Although the fall season comes with cooler weather, it does bring some beautiful scenery to Moravian Academy's Merle-Smith campus, as the towering trees turn gold and red, which just so happens to be our school's colors. Between new classes, fall sports seasons and school events, Moravian Academy enthusiasm is so vibrant in the fall that even the leaves join in.

Moravian Academy's fall sports teams have experienced unprecedented levels of success. The boys soccer team, the girls field hockey team, and the golf team all captured Colonial League titles, with field hockey and golf recording undefeated regular seasons. In addition, the girls tennis team won its seventh straight district team title, and several cross country runners qualified for the state tournament.

Moravian Academy's new "Spirit Club" has tremendously improved the level of support by notifying the student body about games, matches, and meets.

The spirited tone is set early on in the school year with Red and Gold Games Day, which occurs annually in the middle of September. Divided into the Red and Gold teams, Moravian Academy students of all of the divisions come together for a day of fun games and light-hearted competition. All of the students, especially those who have been attending the institution since pre-kindergarten, are extremely fond of this tradition and have a great time gathering fun red-and-gold-themed apparel for the event.

Alumni Weekend, which occurs at the end of September, gives alumni a chance to return to the school and reminisce about their times at Moravian. Moravian Academy's Annual Country Fair, which coincides with this weekend event, not only allows families of students to enjoy a beautiful afternoon together, but also gives many clubs and student council a chance to raise money for worthy causes.

The fall is also a time for the arts to begin to prepare for its usual successful year. The first Open Mic night yielded a high level of participation, including singing, rapping and ukulele-ing, as well as a large and enthusiastic audience. A more formal opportunity for student musicians is the Red and Gold Recital, which allows students who study classical music to showcase their hard work within a community environment.

With busy schedules and full calendars, the beginning of the year can go by in a whirlwind. As the first quarter ends and students begin to settle into a rigorous but fulfilling routine, it can be easy to take for granted how lucky we are to have so many opportunities available to us. But what makes Moravian Academy a special place is that diversity can be found not only among the student body, but also within each individual.
