Longtime NWLSD secretary Sylvia Koenig dies in Lynn Township

Sylvia Koenig, 71, the administrative secretary for the Northwestern Lehigh School District for 35 years, died Oct. 21, 2014, in Lynn Township.

She was the wife of the late Terry C. Koenig.

Born Sept. 3, 1943, in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late James P. and Ellen M. (Confer) Walker.

A member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Lehigh Chapter, and Northwestern Lehigh Class of 1961, she retired from the Northwestern Lehigh School District in 2005.

She was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ, New Tripoli.

A life member and volunteer with the Lynnport Fire Company, Lynnport, she served as secretary there for 10 years and also volunteered as financial secretary with the New Tripoli Fire Company.

She is survived by her children Beth L. Mantz and her husband, Kenneth, of New Tripoli, Lisa E. Sell and her husband, Scott, of Schnecksville, Jonathan E. Kunkel and his wife, Sheila, of Emmaus, Sherry A. Smith and her husband, Kyle, with whom she resided in New Tripoli; stepsons Scott T. Koenig and his wife, Jean, of New Tripoli, Charles V. Koenig and his wife, Joann, of Fort Myers, Fla.; brother James F. Walker and his wife, Bonnie, of Catasauqua; close friend, Earlin Kunkel of New Tripoli; and 15 grandchildren.

Her memorial service will take place 3 p.m. on Nov. 9, at Ebenezer UCC, 7293 Decatur St., New Tripoli, with the Rev. Kevin E. Fruchtl officiating.

The family will receive guests following the service at a reception in the church social hall.
