Hawks set to battle with Central Cath.
Bethlehem Catholic breezed their way through the opening round of the District 11 2A playoffs last week, sweeping Pine Grove in three games (25-7, 25-16, 25-16), but things got significantly harder during Tuesday's semifinal round.
Becahi (17-2), the top-seed in the 2A bracket, took on fourth-seeded Central Catholic (11-7) at Saucon Valley. The results of that contest were past press deadlines, but both schools knew they were going to be in a fight.
"You're going to have two very fired up squads, that's for sure," said Becahi head coach Paul Abi-Daher following last week's win over Pine Grove. "It's really going to come down to who makes the least amount of errors and who can play the best defense."
Becahi has knocked off the Vikings twice this season, the first time coming in four games and the latter in five.
The Hawks have also won five out of the last six meetings between both schools, as they hope to add to that mark with a win on Tuesday night.
Abi-Daher is looking to win the programs third straight district title and knows that this may be the toughest task ahead his team will have in districts.
"The last time we played them [Central] we could not adjust to their short serves," he said. "We've been working on that as of late, but whoever can get the most digs and commit the least amount of errors is probably going to win."
Second-seeded Blue Mountain takes on third-seeded Notre Dame Green Pond in the other semifinal.
Finals are slated for Thursday night at Whitehall High School.
In 3A action, Liberty (12-6) fell to Nazareth last week in a three game sweep (10-25, 10-25, 25-27) to end their season in the first round of districts. The Hurricanes finished the year at 12-7 overall.
