STUDENT PROFILE: Dana Pollock,Freedom HS

Grade: 12

Family members: My mom, Lisa, my dad, Mike, ad my brother Kevin, who is a freshman at Freedom this year

Favorite subject: Math, human anatomy and Spanish. I love when my teacher speaks to my class in Spanish because I'm starting to understand another language.

Activities: I'm currently playing varsity volleyball; in the spring I will play varsity softball and in the summer I will play for my tournament softball team. I'm also part of the band at Freedom as a majorette, a member of National Honors Society and part of the Bethlehem Youth council.

Next steps: I'm in the process of applying to college now. I plan to attend a four-year university to major in nursing and minor in Spanish, and I hope to have to opportunity to study abroad.

Career goals: I hope to receive my master's in nursing and specialize in pediatrics.

Heroes: My parents are my heroes. They always sacrifice themselves to put me and my brother first, and the amount of support they give me is incredible. I hope one day I am able to pay them back for everything they've done for me.

Hobbies: Singing, playing the piano, skiing, playing sports, hanging out with my friends, writing poetry, taking pictures and relaxing.

Current job(s): I am a cashier at Wegmans.

Volunteer/community work: I have volunteered in the past for the Special Olympics held at BASD Stadium. Also, this past spring I worked with my best friend to organize a food drive for the local food bank.

Likes: Playing sports, singing, tacos, listening to music and laughing

Dislikes: The idea of fear and failure, the grates on the ground (I don't step on them), the word chunky, being late and people who are afraid of a challenge.

Greatest accomplishment (so far): Receiving the West Point Society of the Lehigh Valley Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership Award in my junior year at Freedom. It's given for achievement in academics, athletics, community service, good citizenship and leadership, and I am proud of myself for achieving greatness in all of those categories.

Advice for peers: Avoid procrastination and set goals for yourself. Don't be afraid of the hard work it will take you to reach them!
