The lighting at the Northampton Fire Department's station on Lerchenmiller Drive will be upgraded with energy saving lighting at no cost to the borough.
Borough Manager Gene Zarayko, in a report to council Sept. 18, said PPL is sponsoring the program. Valley Electric will replace the existing lighting.
"The total cost is $10,205 and this will be free of charge from PPL's E-power program. We anticipate saving $6,881 a year on our electric bill," Zarayko said.
Council was informed it may be a major undertaking involving wiring at the sewer plant.
Zarayko said there are problems with some of the banks UV lighting.
"This might be a major undertaking because there are approximately 160 lamps and all the wires run through one conduit," he said.
Road improvements continue by the borough's public works personnel. A section of 29th Street was repaved.
Crews also repaved a section of Howertown Road, south of Fourth Street, which Zarayko reported "was badly deteriorated."
