Trauma program recertified

St. Luke's Miners Hospital, the first hospital in Pennsylvania with Level IV Trauma Center designation, has been re-accredited for three more years. This is the first time that a new trauma program has received a three-year resurvey term from the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation.

Having a regional trauma center results in patients beeing seen more quickly, which results in improved patient outcomes. 54 percent of the stabilized patients were transferred via ground or air transport to St. Luke's University Hospital – Bethlehem, a Level I Trauma Center.

"Since officially becoming a Trauma Center last November, we have seen an increase in the acuity and injury severity of our patients, further demonstrating a significant need for this type of elevated care in our community," said Bill Moyer, campus president.. "We are extremely proud to be able to provide these needed services and ensure that excellent trauma care is delivered close to home."
