LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Concordia Lutheran Church plans addition

Concordia Lutheran Church, located on Brookside Road in Lower Macungie Township, has applied for plan approval for a 7,650 square foot addition which will house offices, an educational wing and meeting rooms. The construction will be done in two stages. The plan was approved.

A 12-lot development was approved. This development, formerly known as Jarrett Farms, will be known as Park Side Crossings. The lots are located at 3510 Macungie Road.

In other business, Keith Wolbach, residing at 4915 Lower Macungie Road, has offered one of his lots for subdivision to help defray extreme medical costs. The waivers and deferrals were approved.

The ordinance to rezone the Double D, the lot off the north corner of Spring Creek and Trexlertown roads, was discussed. It is a 5-acre lot presently zoned semirural. The request is to make it commercial, as are other lots in the area.

Mike Siegel, a Lower Macungie Township resident, said the change would be spot zoning and said he would be opposed to rezoning.

Judy Daddona purchased this land 40 years ago. As the property is now, it is an orphaned piece of land. The rest of the area is zoned commercial.

The Borough of Macungie has requested the rezoning not happen due to increased traffic for the borough. The Lehigh County Planning Commission and Upper Milford Township also expressed concerns for the plan.

Lower Macungie Township Commissioner Ron Beitler said he is against the zoning now until other studies, particularly Routes 222 and 100, are completed.

Commissioner Doug Brown is also against the zoning plan.

"There is no substitute for good planning," Brown said.

The vote was three against the plan and two for it. Commissioners Beitler, Brown and Ryan Conrad voted against the plan while Commissioners Brian Higgins and Jim Lancsek voted for it.

The plan for improvements along Hamilton Boulevard for Hamilton Crossings was approved along with the General Reimbursement Agreement with PennDOT.

The plan will include modern technology in its improvements.

Various residents commented on improvements at Quarry Park. Concerns for the use of artificial turf and the amount of money to make these improvements were mentioned.

Comments were also received regarding dog parks. Many residents expressed the need for one and suggested using Quarry Park.

A resident expressed her concern for the Weather Emergency Ordinance. Concerns such as the amount of time to clear the road with residents being away, sleeping or working were expressed.

Ken Navitsky, district office manager for state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th, wrote a letter to share a state legislative fund created to replace outdated traffic lights. The program is called Green Light-Go. Municipalities can apply for the funding for local state roads.

The Lower Macungie Township website update will most likely occur in November.

Jack Nonnemaker re- quested an extension of a payment regarding the Camp Olympic property. The one-time request was granted.

The Sanitary Sewer Rehab Proposal was up for bid. There was only one bid received and it was over budget and, therefore, rejected.
