The Lower Macungie Middle School Student Council is sponsoring its annual "All Treats, No Tricks" food drive Oct. 27 through Nov. 14. Students are being asked to donate non-perishable food items like peanut butter, pasta, tomato sauce, tuna fish, macaroni and cheese, cereal, soup, canned fruits and vegetables, juice, baby food, etc. All non-perishable food items will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley whose mission is to obtain food and distribute it to people in need through area non-profits, all in the hope of ending hunger. The homeroom collecting the largest number of items (250 item minimum) will win a party.

The LMMS Student Council is also sponsoring its annual coat drive. This is an opportunity to pass along coats and jackets no longer needed while at the same time helping to make sure no one goes without a basic necessity like a coat this winter.

The collection of new and clean, gently used coats and jackets is part of One Warm Coat, which is a national non-profit organization supporting and encouraging the donation of coats. All coats collected by LMMS will be donated to The Caring Place in Allentown. The Caring Place is a non-profit youth development center striving to aid inner city youth become healthy, productive citizens.

Coats and jackets are needed for men, women and children of all ages. Donations may be dropped off at LMMS during school hours or can be sent in to school with your child. The coat drive continues through Nov. 14.
