Duo makes quarters

Whitehall High School's Eiman Nazif and Emily Yenser made it to the quarterfinals of the District XI Class AAA Girls Doubles Tennis Tournament before being eliminated last week at Parkland High School.

Yenser said, "I'm happy about the level we reached and how we played in the last two games."

The Zephyrs' quarterfinal match resulted in a 2-6, 3-6 loss to Freedom's Flannery Johnston and Elizabeth McCarthy.

"They just came out to play. There were a lot of unforced errors on our end," said Yenser.

In their second round match against Stroudsburg's Sophia Rostock and Emily Geiger, the Zephyrs won in three sets, 6-0, 5-7, 10-6.

"They just talked to their coach, and their coach fired them up for the second set, and we relaxed too much. They were more consistent and got to the balls a lot more," Yenser said. "In the third set, we were down 1-4 and came back."

The Zephyrs' first round match was a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Northampton's Deleany Haggerty and Jolene Stearns.

"We both hit a lot of really good shots. We were really pumped up for that," said Yenser. "We want to work really hard in the off season and make it farther next year."
