LOWER MACUNGIE COLUMN 'Remembering Elvis' at LMMS
The Macungie Minstrelaires will present "Remembering Elvis" at Lower Macungie Middle School. Show times are 8 p.m. Oct. 24, 25 and Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. Matinees are 2 p.m. Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. Part of this year's proceeds will benefit the Autism Society of the Lehigh Valley.

Curbside collection of yard waste continues through Oct. 17. Containers/bundles should be placed separately at the curb on the regular collection day. Grass clippings are not included. The Church of the Good Shepherd in Alburtis will hold a fall and holiday bazaar 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 18. There will be crafts, a white elephant, Chinese auction, bake sale and food.
Curbside leaf collection will begin Oct. 20 and continue through Nov. 28, weather permitting.
Concordia Lutheran Church will hold its third annual holiday bazaar 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 25. There will be light breakfast, lunch with homemade soups, a bake sale and a basket raffle. There will be a job fair noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 28 at the community center. Representatives from local companies will be available.
Trick or treat in Lower Macungie Township will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 31. Some homeowner's associations may have set alternate dates for their neighborhoods.
Sarajane Williams, local author and president of the Lower Macungie Township Historical Society, will speak about her book, "The Ghost of Macungie and Surrounding Communities" 6 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Lower Macungie Township library. Register in advance for an evening of ghost stories.
The library will host "Tea at the Library" 2 p.m. Oct. 26. Tea, scones, tea sandwiches and desserts will be served while a harpist performs. Tickets are available through Oct. 18. Proceeds benefit the library.
The library book club will meet 10:30 a.m. Nov. 5 to discuss "The Madonnas of Leningrad" by Debra Dean at the community center. The meeting for Dec. 10 will be a holiday cookie exchange.
There will be a bedtime booktime for children ages 2 to 8 years 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3. Come in your pajamas to hear some bedtime stories.
A children's program, "Express Your Inner Diary of a Wimpy Kid," will be held 1 p.m. Oct. 18 at the library. In preparation for the release of "Hard Luck" in November, the program will offer games and crafts based on the Wimpy Kid series.
There will be a Halloween drop-by storytime for children ages 2 to 9 years. There will be Halloween stories and treats for the kids. Children may come in their costumes. No registration is required.

Book donations are now being accepted through Oct. 18 for the November book sale. Sorting of the books occurs 8:30 a.m. every Thursday morning through Oct. 23. Fine sorting of the books will take place 8:30 a.m. every morning the week of Oct. 27 in the library.
The Friends of the Lower Macungie Library book sale will be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 21 and 22. The bag sale begins 2:30 p.m. Nov. 22. Member preview night will be 5 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20. Membership forms are available. All proceeds benefit the library.
The Lower Macungie Firefighters' Ladies Auxiliary will hold the annual craft fair 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at 958 Brookside Road. There will be craft tables, a homemade lunch, Chinese auction and bake sale. Spaces for crafters are still available. For information, call 484-239-3945.
There will be a breakfast with everyone's favorite bear and bouncing tiger for children ages infant through 7 years with an adult 9 to 10:30 a.m. Nov. 8 at the community center. Tickets include breakfast, photo opportunities, and a prize. Registration is limited to 100 people.
There will be a Veterans Day program 2 to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the community center. Michael E. Deibert, Lt.Col. USAFR (ret.) will speak about his military experiences as well as his multigenerational family of veterans dating back to the Revolutionary War.
The board of commissioners and staff are holding the ninth annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who will not be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The township is also collecting old cell phones to be recycled in exchange for prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops stationed overseas. The community center is an official drop-off point for "Cell Phones for Soldiers" until Oct. 31.
The annual craft/vendor fair will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 22 at the community center.
The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon Oct. 21 and Nov. 4 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games. On Oct. 21 the games are followed by special entertainment.
The Lower Macungie Township Community Center offers a number of activities including Walkercise, yoga, pilates, and Zumba. Fall classes include Kindermusik, kids' art and cooking classes, Mommy/Daddy and Me Soccer and Toddlers and Tutus.

Family Open Gym time is 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.
Yard waste site hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Starting Nov. 1 the hours will be noon to 5 p.m. The site is closed Tuesday and Thursday. Be prepared to show your photo I.D. as proof of residency.
