Bethlehem Catholic's chance at playing the for the first East Penn Conference volleyball championship was kept alive after a harrowing win in five games Saturday evening over Central Catholic.
The Hawks pulled out the win 27-25, 15-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-12 in quarterfinal matchup.
The second-seeded Hawks (16-1) moved on to play third-seeded Emmaus (14-3) in Tuesday night's semifinals at Freedom High School, but those results are past Press deadlines.
Becahi hasn't played Emmaus this season, but the Hawks were eliminated by the Green Hornets in last year's Lehigh Valley Conference semifinals.
"I know very little about them coming into the game since we haven't played them at all this year," said head coach Paul Abi-Daher. "Obviously, they're a very good team to be second in their [Skyline] division, but we need to take lessons from how we played against Central and come out with a little more urgency."
Abi-Daher felt his team was fortunate to come away with a victory in the first game after a slow start against the Vikings, only to see Becahi lose the next two games before climbing back for the win.
"We dominated the fifth game, but we can't put ourselves in these type of situations moving forward," he said. "It's a lesson we can learn from all this that we need to start better."
Liberty (12-5) lost to Nazareth in four games in their EPC quarterfinal opener by a 12-25, 17-25, 25-22, 18-25 affair. The Hurricanes entered as the fifth-seed, while the Blue Eagles were seeded fourth, as they moved on to play top-seeded Parkland in Tuesday's nightcap.
Liberty now awaits their fate for the district tournament.
