Hawks, Mounties meet for division clash
Bethlehem Catholic and Stroudsburg both enter this week as undefeated 7-0 football teams. They also enter with a combined 102-0 combined scoreline from last week in wins over Pocono Mountain East and Allen.
And now both of them finally get to lock horns this week in the biggest battle for both teams this season when Stroudsburg makes the trip to Frank Banko Field Saturday night.
"There's certainly more to play for at this point of the season," said Henrich. "You have two undefeated teams playing in week eight and that should make things fun."
It should also make things competitive, as Stroudsburg hasn't really been tested since a week one 21-14 victory over Nazareth. Meanwhile, Becahi hasn't played a close game since a week two 40-38 win over Pleasant Valley.
The Mounties are led by junior running back Gerald Douglas, who ran for three touchdowns and 210 yards on 15 carries in last week's 50-0 victory over Allen.
Henrich knows that stopping Douglas is the first step to coming away victorious this weekend.
"He can beat you in a number of ways," Henrich said of Douglas. "He's probably the best running back we've seen so far this year, but they're a big physical team too. They do a nice job of holding people down on defense."
On the flip side, Stroudsburg hasn't seen a team like Becahi either this season. The weapons the Hawks have on offense with the likes of quarterback Julian Spigner, wide receiver Freddie Simmons and running back Michael McDaniel give any team fits, let alone the Mounties, who have not seen a dangerous offense this year. Stroudsburg has given up 42 points so far this season, but after a week where Spigner threw for five scores, it's fair to say that Stroudsburg's defense will certainly be tested.
"We're going to try and dictate the game on offense and play just we have all season," said Henrich. "We still have two very important guys on defense out for us. We played better last week on that side of the ball, but we still need to be better."
Linebacker Antwan Keenan is out for the year for Becahi with an ankle injury and linebacker Will Ward is not expected to play this week as well for the Hawks.
The winner of this week's contest will also likely claim the North Division title, since the East Penn Conference crowns two division champions this year, instead of one conference champion.
"Theoretically, this game could decide the division for both teams," Henrich said. "It'll have implications for both of us once this weekend is over, but we're looking forward to playing in a game like this."
