Civic announces 'Carol' auditions
Auditions for Civic Theatre of Allentown's 25th anniversary production of "A Christmas Carol" will be held Oct. 18, 20 and 21 at Civic's 19th Street Theatre, 527 N. 19th St., Allentown.
"A Christmas Carol" will be presented Dec. 5 - 20, with student matinees Dec. 9, 10, 16 at Civic's Nineteenth Street Theatre
"A Christmas Carol," based on the novella by Charles Dickens, will be directed by Civic Artistic Director William Sanders, who adapted the script with Sharon Lee Glassman.
Auditions are:
Noon Oct. 18: children in Grades 1 - 4; 2:30 p.m. Oct. 18: children grades 5 and up;
7 p.m. Oct. 20: young adults and teenagers 16 and up, and
7 p.m. Oct. 21: adults.
Teenagers who want to audition for the role of an adult should attend the Oct. 21 adult audition.
Adults will be asked to do a cold reading from the script.
Children auditioning do not need to prepare anything specific although they may be asked to sing 8 - 16 bars, a cappella, of a Christmas song. If interested in a lead role, they will be asked to do a cold reading from the script.
Young actors and adults asked to bring the following to the open call: a recent picture, which does not have to be a professional headshot, but should clearly show the face, and a list of schedule conflicts from auditions to closing night, Dec. 20.
Rehearsals, beginning in October, are weekday evenings and Sundays. The dates and times that actors are called for rehearsal vary depending on the size of the role.
Children in ensemble roles (Urchins and Party Kids) will be double cast, and therefore called for fewer rehearsals. Most children will be called to 16 rehearsals or less.
The weeks leading up to the performances will require the most rehearsals. No rehearsals will be held around the Thanksgiving holiday, Nov. 26 - 29.
