Becahi's Reightler chooses IUP

Maddie Reightler may not have had that much success on the field for Bethlehem Catholic's field hockey program, but Reightler will have a chance to make up for that in college.

Reightler recently committed to Division-II Indiana University of Pennsylvania, making her one of the few Becahi field hockey players in the school's history to move on to play at the collegiate level.

For Reightler, the decision came easy after visiting the campus.

"I just really liked the dorms they had, the campus and the turf field," said Reightler, who also considered Slippery Rock, Mercy College and Division-I St. Louis University. "It's only four and a half hours from home too, so I'm not far away in case I have to get home."

Reightler was spotted by college coaches at a showcase tournament last November and helped her cause by emailing coaches to watch her play.

IUP was the first school to get back to her and the rest, they say, is history.

"To be able to play in college and represent Becahi is just awesome," Reightler said. "We've struggled the past couple years [at Becahi] and even though I didn't really have the type of supporting cast on the field like I'll have in college, we all learned from the struggle. It made me a better player and made me want to work harder."
